The Sprouting of Fig and Poppy Coffee

Fig and Poppy Coffee was a dream built into reality, and came to life in 2025. Eric, the founder and roaster, started roasting in his parents back yard during 2020 right next to a patch of fig trees. Moving from New Jersey to St. Louis in 2023, he started roasting for co-workers and friends. The jump from home roasting to commercial roasting was a big step but with all the wonderful support we made the dream to start a roasting company come to fruition.

 

Why Fig and Poppy?

You may be wondering, "Is this coffee flavored with figs and poppies?", and the answer is "No, absolutely not."

The simple answer is our wonderful pet tree frog are named Fig and Poppy!

The long story is, Eric grew up eating fresh figs from the fig trees in his parents backyard, falling in love with the taste of this fresh fruit. Eric's partner loves poppy flowers as her favorite flower. So once they became frog parents, they decided to name the pair of frogs Fig and Poppy as a part of remembering Eric's childhood in New Jersey, and his partners love for flowers.

While trying to settle on a brand name, we ran through a good amount of names, with none sticking to what represented us. When going back to the drawling board, we thought of tying in the botanical aspect of the frog names to a coffee roasting company.
